At the Children’s Centre we pride ourselves on providing high quality activities, that link to the early years foundation stage guidance. We also provide short courses that help families get together, learn from each other and discover new ideas and tips from us.
A 4 week course in which you will be taught how to massage your baby, there will also be discussions and information around understanding your baby’s development and communication. Suitable for babies between 8 weeks and 7 months old. Please note your baby needs to be registered with us in order to receive an invite to this group.
Learning Through Play/Explorers
An exciting group aimed for toddlers and pre-schoolers, with lots of great activities including messy play, singing and physical play. Our hopes for you and your child/ren are to enjoy spending time together, that play is fun for you as an adult, as well as your child, for you and your child/ren to meet new people and for you to take lots of new play ideas to try at home.
For babies from 0-5years, with the main focus of 0-1’s. Great activities aimed to stimulate baby development. Member of the health team available.
Here’s Looking at You Baby
This is a 9 week session which is a small, friendly and informal group aimed at new parents and their under 6 month old babies. The underpinning principles of this group are: Sharing information with parents; Supporting early bonding between parent and baby in order to develop secure attachment; Communicating and playing with your baby; Positioning; Sensory processing; baby states; turn taking; eye contact; conversations and smiling.
This group supports the use of play and love of sharing books, run over 4 weeks. The group starts each week with a picnic lunch (please come prepared) followed by an activity for the children based on a theme. Parents/Carers will have an opportunity to share ideas and gain knowledge around how to build up your child and family’s love for books.
Breastfeeding Group/Boobie Babies
This group is friendly, informal and open to all. Drop in and get support from our trained staff and peer supporters on how to get feeding off to the best possible start. Pregnant mums are very welcome.
This is a support group for families who may have concerns about their child’s development or additional needs. Support on accessing the relevant help and signposting available.
Let’s Talk More
This group is by invite only. The group is for 2-3yr olds to help develop their listening and communication skills following a Let’s Talk More assessment. Days, times and locations will vary depending on the need. Please call if you have any concerns.
12 week programme designed for parents that focuses on emotional health and well-being. The basic theme is to understand and listen to your child’s behaviour. Call for more details as courses run throughout the year.
This programme aims to support parents and carers wishing to learn more about the Thrive Approach and it’s practical, everyday application to family life. How children’s brain develops, how to play and be creative to support them managing feelings and to have fun.
