January 2018 – Children’s Centre Update
Dear Parents and Carers
We’ve recently appointed a partner to continue delivering our children’s centre services for you and your family. Having tendered for the contract, we’re pleased to announce that Action for Children will continue to run most of these services on our behalf from April 2018, when their previous contract ends.
We are confident that they will continue to provide a first class service for young children and their families.
However, you will know that our funding has reduced for all our services, and children’s centres are no exception. So we’ve had to change the way we deliver some Children’s Centre services and look at where you have told us there are gaps in services for some families. Therefore one change will be that from April 2018, we’ve extended the age range for support, so that children up to the age of eight will be able get help from our Children’s Centres.
Some services have been aimed very specifically at helping vulnerable young children and their families, tailored very carefully to helping them have the best possible start in life. Other services have been less specific, not targeted, and available for everyone.
In future our Children’s Centres will continue to provide some services for everyone, but the majority will be aimed specifically at these vulnerable children and their families who need that extra help as early as possible.
We know that some universal services the children’s centres deliver, like breastfeeding support, and Stay and Play are valued by the people who use them, so we are asking Action for Children to work with you and other local local groups to encourage and support them to meet that type of need in future.
We hope that you agree that our focus needs to be on helping vulnerable children to have the best start in life, and that while our Children’s Centres will no longer be able to provide everything that they have been doing, Action for Children will work with you to help encourage local communities to find local solutions.
We’d like to hear what you think about the services that Children’s Centres offer, especially about what we could do differently to ensure the services you most value continue. Please talk to your children’s centre about any ideas you may have.
If you need to speak to someone, please contact us at Hatherleigh on 01837 811190 or Tavistock on 01822 614210 Email; firstname.lastname@example.org

The Devon County Council PinPoint lists thousands of services and community groups across Devon in one single search. It can signpost parents and families to seek help and support around finding childcare, guidance for new families, parent & toddler groups, child health, local children’s centre facilities and family support group.
Action for Children believes that the use of imaging is an essential part of everyday life. As such, children and young people who use Action for Children services together with staff are encouraged to use such technology positively and responsibly.
Action for Children recognises that the risks to which children and young people may be exposed are real and need to be reduced wherever possible. To safeguard the welfare of all children accessing our services, we would like to remind you that taking photo’s/images in sessions is against Action for Children policy.
